The KAR rescue centre is located up in the Besparmak mountains, about 10 miles outside of Girne on the mountain road to Famagusta.
From central Girne, take the road going east past the Post Office and the Hospital. When you reach the roundabout, go straight across. This is the road to Çatalköy. You will go through the village of Karakum, then through Çatalköy. Stay on the same road, you will reach a right hand bend then you will start climbing into the mountains. After 5 miles (8Km) on the left hand side you should see the distinctive Five Finger Mountains, the centre is on the left, you should see the Kyrenia Animal Rescue sign. If you reach the café on the left, you have gone too far.

The Rescue Centre was re-located to the Besparmak Mountains in 1999, and is now home to over 200 dogs and puppies and 50 cats and kittens. The centre is fully committed to providing a caring and loving environment for all the animals.
Visitors are welcome to see the centre and the work that we do, or to take a dog for a walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Many of the dogs are very eager for ‘walkies’, it is a great treat for them.
Help is also required to bath, groom, socialize or just play with some of the many dogs and cats.
Work is always required on the maintenance of the buildings, compounds and grounds at the centre and are always desperate for donations to help with the continuing expansion of our facilities.

THE CENTRE IS OPEN DAILY 9AM – 1PM

MISSING PERSON
Hardworking (except during lunch times)
Sense of humour (an absolute must)
Experienced in office work (including the sacred art of Tea making !)
Intelligent (...ish)
Friendly (animal/human - although the "human" aspect takes second place)
IT literate (unlike some of us)
Calm (until the frenzy takes over)
Thick skinned (for bouncing off the criticisms)
Ability to deal with enquiries ( as well as demands/insults/threats and the occasional show of appreciation)
Enjoy knowing that you are making a difference (although it often doesn't feel like it)

ARE YOU OUR MISSING OFFICE ANGEL?

We need volunteers to help in the Kyrenia office -1 day per week (more if you are mad !) and to hopefully provide absence cover (whilst the exisiting Office Angels are away having their Therapy).

If you can help please call the office for further details.

Centre staff jacks of all trades making platforms for the dogs to sleep on, out of pallets.

Latest work at the centre

Work on the newest Rescue Centre accommodation block began in March of 2008. Now finished and in use, the block known as the ER Block is named after Edith Richardson who's generous bequest paid for the building.

A further legacy from the family of another regular visitor Budd Graves, was given to KAR especially so that the electrical work could be completed and heat lamps could be installed in the ER Block.

All of the building work was carried out by volunteers David, Trevor, Mike and Stuart which meant that every penny of the bequests could be used for materials.

The Block made up of six block built kennels each with an outside run is to be used for dogs recovering from operations, injuries and Mums and pups.

Further building work is taking place at the Arapkoy Rescue Centre following another generous donation. Changes are being made to the layout of the 'house' which  will improve working conditions for staff and volunteers. Walls are being knocked down, sinks moved and doors knocked through. When completed the reception and office, storage room, puppy annex and vet room will area will be more spacious and easier to work in.
