Kennel Maintenance

These photos were taken this Tuesday, 17th January, when a group of volunteers spent the morning building 3 kennels and cutting out the parts for 8 more ready to be assembled. This ongoing project will ensure that more of the centre dogs have shelter from the winter wind and rain and the summer wind and sunshine.

On Monday 31st October Kyrenia Animal Rescue received an unsolicited donation from Selpa Trading Ltd in Kyrenia of 10 x 20kg bags of McKerk Dry Dog Food - an act of generosity to Girne's Animal Charity that the Company continues to support KAR when it is able. The donation was carried out by Selpa representative Pinar Cagansel though there are no photos of the event.

Selpa Trading Ltd, selpatrading@kibrisonline.com, has often helped KAR the latest being the provision of wine at a reduced price for the Spring Bellapais Piano Recital fundraiser.
Below are two ads sent by Pinar in the hopes that this may cement this relationship between Selpa Trading Ltd and KAR.

Fund Raising for KAR

By the Butchers Arms, Chester Le Street, Co Durham, UK.

In 2009 I visited TRNC and there was a lot of publicity regarding poisoning dogs.  I was disgusted at this and decided to take action.  I went to my local pet shop in Great Lumley, Co Durham and asked the owner if she would help me to run a raffle so that I could buy muzzles and other items for KAR.

Whilst shopping in Chester Le Street, I went into the Butchers Arms for a meal and some refreshments.  The Butchers Arms had just been taken over by new management, a lady called Joan.  We chatted and I told her what I was doing and she asked me if I had any raffle tickets so she could sell some in the bar.  When I took them out of my bag, another customer sitting nearby came over and asked for ½ my book so she could sell some.  They were fantastic and between us we were able to bring over to the TRNC some £350 of pet equipment, bowls, muzzles, collars and leaders plus lots of equipment that the customers brought in for us.

In 2010, when I decided to move to TRNC (even though my house was not completed), Joan and I discussed the Pet problems and she told me about another customer who visited the TRNC and she also had told her about KAR.  Whilst this discussion took place, we discussed the charity boxes on the bar: RSPCA, PDSA etc.

Joan then said, why don’t you make a box and we will put it on the bar for you.  So I went to the local shops and bought a money box, cards to cut up for pictures of pets, magnetic pet fridge magnets and made an attractive box for the bar.  When I went back on holiday 8 weeks ago, she had set up another box as the first had been filled.  They raised nearly £100 and Joan and her husband rounded it up to £100, which was paid to KAR this month.

Joan and her customers have been a fantastic support and they all keep in touch to find out what is happening and have their new box on the bar (as can be seen in recent photos)

'KAR PIT Corner'

The KAR bright Public Information Table was out in the Girne Belediyere Square [Ramadan Cemil Meydani] on Saturday 17 September as part of the Girne Festival11 run by the Girne Cheshire Home Rehabilitation Centre. The PIT received much interest from the public and took some welcome pecuniary donations as well as visits by street dogs.

KAR AGM

The 20th International Homeless Animals Day was on Saturday 20 August where Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR) were present in Ramadan Cemal Meydani in Girne from 5.00pm until 8.00pm with some rescued dogs explaining to the public how its Arapkoy Centre has become overwhelmed by the many poor animals that have been left homeless in Girne District. There was an opportunity for dog owners to meet people who have taken on animals that were found roaming the streets or dumped at the Centre. It was also an opportunity for those who are unable to take a cat or dog into their home to look at photos of cats and dogs in KAR’s care and choose one to sponsor financially.

When animals are not spayed or neutered there is the risk of them breeding again and again, which is not only cruel for the mother involved and cruel to her puppies or kittens but also adds to the unwanted street population.

There was a Public Information Table in the square with informative leaflets, photos and some sale items as the TRNC Registered Animal Charity is always in need of cash to support its ongoing projects that include Neuter and Return.

Morning!! Here is the result of an early morning's 10am call to the Culture Centre. KADS presented KAR with half the proceeds of its last show ... 2,200 TL.

Fund raising KAR Lunch

42 people lunched in perfect weather at the Veranda Restaurant in Karalanoglu on Wednesday at the charity's Annual Fundraising Lunch. Owners Anna and Yasa, as always, put on o splendid buffet that was enjoyed by all. This year they had added a free drink in the ticket price.
A good display of prizes boosted the sale of raffle tickets that pushed the overall income from the event to 1,000 TL.

Marathon Man

KAR sends its heartfelt thanks to Steve Jones who ran in the Edinburgh Marathon after receiving sponsorship for the TRNC based Animal Charity.

Not put off by having reached the age of 60, Ozankoy based Steven Jones did not shy away from road running but instead joined the 30,000 athletes who ran in the Edinburgh marathon on Sunday 22 May. He ran in support of Kyrenia Animal Rescue.

Although the weather was as expected, with gale force winds and heavy rain, it did not stop the ex-policeman from reaching the finishing line.
After completing the race it seems that it was not over just yet as he then had to walk a quarter of a mile to collect his medal and a further half an hour bus ride followed by a 40 minute walk to get back to his hotel. However, Steven says that it was all worth it and was greeted by his wife when back at the hotel.
"I was absolutely shattered and dead on my feet. Its all for a good cause and I am just pleased to be able to help the animals," Jones explained after the event.

Thank you and well done - to all the very generous sponsors who supported Steve and helped raise 2,120.00 TL for Kyrenia Animal Rescue, which will go directly towards helping the animals.

011 KAR Dog Show & Spring Fayre

Thank you everyone (owners/volunteers/spectators and lovely dogs) for your support with this years Dog Show and Spring Fayre . It was so nice to meet so many of you and to put faces to names.
I hope that you all enjoyed the event - with everyones contributions and the 255 entries it raised 11,240.00 TL (which hopefully will keep the wolf away from the door for a short while - any way there is no room for wolves as we are full to the brim with dogs !!)

Bye for now
Kim (who is especially grateful for the scrummy chocolate brownies that were left for her at the Registration stand ).
PS:This Saturday (April 30th) there will be a Charity Night at Chelsey Village restaurant. It sounds a really fun evening - please attend if you can. Details above.
